To work as a Vehicle Mechanic in Germany

General Description

The position involves work on American military vehicle carrying out vehicle mechanical maintenance . Duties will include engine stripdowns, gearbox overhauls, general maintenance and servicing
To carry out a level 30 check you need to have a high level of knowledge of Vehicle maintenance and be very familiar with the Vehicle you are working on.

Major components will be replaced and repaired at this level, such as engine and gearbox separation, replacing components parts, changing rear fenders and major body panels.
Although the vehicles involved will include Heavy Plant, Heavy Wheeled and tracked military equipment. A good knowlege of vehicle maintenance, usually gained through either theoretical studies (C&G, N.V.Q,) or roughly 5 years shop floor experience in a Garage carying out similar work on general vehicles would be sufficient.

Some of the vehicles that you will work on:

  • Hummv
  • Troop transporters 5 Tonne wheeled vehicle
  • M1 Abrahams Tank
  • M2 Bradley Main infantry carrying Vehicle (Similar to the British Warrior)
  • M113
  • Heavy duty trailers
  • Hemmet: large wheeled vehicle used to transport heavy stores and equipment


Duration of contract
Our contracts are generlly of a six months nature, this however can be either shorter or longer due to the nature of our customers requirements.

Accommodation and food
Although these will be at your expense, we have a welfare officer in Germany that will find your accommodation on your behalf, and provide assistance in finding other necessities whilst overseas.

How you will be paid
Although your contract will state your hourly wage in Dollars, you will actually be paid weekly in sterling into a British bank account. The exchange rate used is reviewed by the M&E Group on a regular basis.

Tax and national Insurance
As an overseas worker you will receive a Tax and NI dispensation, this however varies between each contract and would be discussed with you by the recruitment department.
